There are plenty of things that you can do with offset printing and there are only a few limitations that you can point out. However, these limitations of traditional offset printing can be covered by the effective use of the new digital printing technology that can be found today.

The cost of the printing processes are not very cost effective if you apply it to short run prints because the cost of the printed copies will not be enough to cover the cost the printing process – making your short run prints more expensive per printed piece as compared to printing in bulk.

Digital printing addresses this problem by offering a simplified direct to printer process that means you can print directly form the computer to the printer. This makes the printing process less tedious and much less expensive. Because of this, there are no restrictions in the amount of orders that you can request. There is also no difference in the price per printed piece if you print in different number of copies.

The giclee printing produced with digital printers give the best attention to detail that you can hope for. The details are copied perfectly with out losing color, weight or feel.

Easier to create and edit printsAlso, because of the advent the computers, it is easier to edit your prints once you see that there are errors in the proof. There are a lot of image editing software that you can use to fix and edit your images or your designs in any way that you deem fit. The digital age truly helps in making life easier – even in printing.

Prevent sharing: User licenses are linked to their IP address and therefore, access codes cannot be shared with others. This is better than just a password because it only work on one computer.5. Lock out refunds: If a customer asks for a refund, you can deny them the access to the files. All with a single click of the mouse. Too bad for those compulsive refunders.6. What to do With Digital Pictures

March 5th, 2010 DigitalDreamCity No comments

The person who thought up digital photo technology had a terrific idea. And the fact that digital cameras are now so affordable means that more people are choosing this option for their photo needs. But there are some major differences between film cameras and digital cameras when it comes to the end result.

One of the biggest advantages of film cameras was also one of the biggest disadvantages. When you completed shooting a roll of film, you took it to a lab (or mailed it off) and got photos in return. On the downside, you didn’t usually get photos developed until you had an entire roll of film finished. Some people say that not having the photo is one of the biggest negatives of digital photography. There’s a tendency to shoot the photos, download them to the computer and simply leave them there. But there are some options – some really incredible options!

Printing on your home printer has never been easier. And as the technology continues to advance, photo paper is becoming increasingly more affordable. There are even some printers out there designed to read directly from the camera and spit out photos on the spot.

You can also have digital photos printed from your local retailer or any number of online photo labs. Upload photos from your computer to their sites, or take your digital camera media in. The cost is very reasonable. What’s more, you can choose the sizes you want, get multiple prints of only those that you want, and eliminate the bad shots without paying for printing.

Most computers have great photo software that allows you to correct problems before printing. You can eliminate red eyes, crop out unwanted backgrounds, and even sharpen the focus to some degree. You can also lighten or darken to make up for bad lighting at the time of the shot.

If you’re into special effects, the sky’s the limit. You can change from color to black and white, insert your subject into any scene, add text or change colors. What’s more, every mistake you make while experimenting is easy to rectify, or you can simply trash that endeavor and start over.

Having digital photos on your computer can also be great when it’s time for gift giving. There are software programs that allow you to create calendars using your own photos. You can make customized cards for any occasion. Imagine sending out birth announcements with the baby’s first photo on the front of the card!

There are plenty of gift ideas from online. Most online photo labs offer options for every season. You simply upload a photo, then choose the gift you want with that image. Coffee cups, t-shirts, puzzles, posters, playing cards and more are available, personalized with your favorite picture.

It’s interesting to see that more companies are offering options with digital photos. Even the US Postal Service has recently announced that you can order personalized stamps using a photo you upload from your computer.

There’s no doubt that film photography is still preferred for certain situations, but digital photography has certainly taken the lead in many venues. Whether you’re a professional or simply the designated family photographer, take a look at some of the great things you can do with those digital photos.

Digital Printing Paving the Way for Quick Turn Around Printing Services

March 3rd, 2010 DigitalDreamCity No comments

Having quick turn around printing services is very convenient – especially today when everyone is living a fast paced world. But have you ever wondered how digital printing companies can offer quick turn around printing services? Here are three reasons how:Reason number 1: There are no more mechanical processes involved in digital printingThe digital printing process utilizes direct to printer approach that can by pass mechanical process that are essential in traditional off set printing methods. For example, in order to have your prints produced through offset printing, you need to produce plates that will serve as a guide for your printer. You need film strippers for proofing purposes. However, this is not the case with digital printing. Through the digital process you can transfer your design files from your removable storage devices and transfer them to your printer’s computer. After this, just sit back and watch your prints run since the computer automatically transfers your image files to the computer for printing. With the digital printing process your prints can be ready literally within minutes. For example, your ink jet or laser printer at home can print your documents straight from your computer with just a click of the button.  When you click the print button in your computer, you can immediately see the printer print your document. The same principle is applied by digital printing companies albeit in a much larger scale.Reason number 2: Different way of coloring printsAlso, digital printing’s ink distribution is different from traditional offset. In offset printing, the paper and the plates pass through several rolls that contain color inks in order to get the hue that you want. Through these rolls, layers of ink are “stamped” together in different amounts thus producing different shades. And while this method usually produces vivid colors, one drawback it has is when large amounts of inks are used, it is harder to for the ink to dry. Digital printers on the other hand spray the ink directly on top of the paper starting from the top to the bottom then coating it with an aqueous finish. This coating allows the ink to dry in an instant thus allowing digital printers to have quick turn around printing services.A great example of this would be your photo printing services. Feel the paper after your photos have been printed. Can you feel a slight gloss coating in your prints? Digital printers use this same type of gloss in your prints. Other finishes such as UV coating and matte can also be requested.Reason number 3: Easy proofing and editingWith the traditional offset methods, proofing your prints require a meticulous method called film stripping. This process involves the production of copies of your design on film. These films are then reviewed and edited by film strippers either by tearing or by using black markers. This process is no longer used in digital printing and you can easily see the proofs of your prints through the computer monitor. You can even magnify this copy so that you can check even the slightest details of your prints.Editing is just as easy. Once you see something wrong with your prints or want some modifications on your layout, you can easily change them through your design software of choice and print when finished.

Full Color Digital Printing at Your Fingertips

March 3rd, 2010 DigitalDreamCity No comments

Full color digital printing is a printing method that allows you to print your materials through digital means. It allows you to bypass several mechanical processes that are associated with traditional offset printing technology. Offset printing processes like color stripping, color separation and plate production are not present in full color digital printing. Because of this, digital printing is faster, more efficient and is easier to do.However, there are plenty more advantages that full color digital printing offers. These advantages are very unique and are used to supplement the services and printing options that you can do through offset methods. Here are some of them:Printing on demandPrinting on demand means you can print your materials and you can specify when you want them done. This option is readily available through digital printing since there are less printing processes that you have to go through in order to create your prints. The fact that plenty of processes are by-passed means that you can save on the production time of your materials. This in turn means that you can have your prints at very fast turn around times.Short run printsTraditional offset printing methods made short run prints impractical to do. The fact that you need to go through several mechanical processes in order to have your materials printed means that the cost as well as the time needed to produce your prints is significantly high.Digital printing solves this problem by shortening the production process and using direct to printer technology to lower both the production time and the production cost – making your short run prints easier to do.Variable data printingVariable data printing is a feature that is unique to digital printing. It allows you to mass produce custom printed materials as opposed to printing large amounts of copies of a single print. Also, since variable printing allows you to personalize the prints that you create, it makes it an ideal option when you want to embark on direct marketing campaigns that involve personal messages and approach. What are the types of variable data printing? There are different types of variable printing services and each of them have different characteristics and uses. Here are three of the most commonly used variable printing services.

This type of variable printing service is just printing your materials in short run and adjusting the print quantity to the quantity that you want or the quantity that your project needs.

Selectable variable printing service on the other hand has several elements of your design that are static while several elements of your design are variable. This means that certain elements of your design can be changed from print to print. An example of this printing service would be your tickets and your direct mail materials where in you can change the name and addresses on each of your prints.

As the name suggests, the full variable printing services allows you to customize and personalize all the elements of your prints – creating a different design each and every time.

Digital Signage Solutions Help Improve Hotel Employee Productivity

October 20th, 2009 DigitalDreamCity No comments

Hotels typically lag behind other industries in terms of technology spending. Capital investment is directed toward adding better amenities or renovating the property in efforts to remain competitive or drive occupancy and ADR. Tech spending is on the rise, however, and one emerging area is digital signage.
A digital signage network generally consists of large flat panel LCD or plasma displays that are driven by networked media players, which are customized, application-specific pcs. They can be updated remotely over standard internet protocols and have robust scheduling software which allows hotels a unique new way of reaching out to their guests at the point of contact. The content they deliver is only limited to the creative ability of the designer. As a new communications medium, a digital signage network can be utilized to playback relevant information to the guests (weather, airline info, news, etc.), branding messages, promotional messages, or even third party advertising which can provide a new revenue source for the hotel.
Digital signage can also replace outdated electronic reader board systems and improve employee productivity. For many hotels, displaying the meeting schedule information can be quite a chore. Employees input the information in their sales and catering software and print out a copy every time it changes. After it is printed out, they distribute copies to display cases located throughout the property. In other cases, they may have to take the printed sheet over to another computer system and input the data again manually. The meetings or group schedule then gets distributed to outdated television displays and in-room systems.
While these methods may “work”, they are outdated and inefficient. It is unnecessary for employees to waste their time inputting meeting information manually. A digital hotel signage solution can interface with the hotel’s existing sales and event management programs, dynamically distributing the meeting schedules to flat panel monitors located throughout the hotel. Employees will no longer be required to spend time updating meeting schedules and they can focus their time and efforts on catering to their guests and groups.
Not only will the digital hotel signage network improve hotel employee productivity, but it will also have the capability of displaying attractive, compelling, and dynamic content. When groups enter the property and see digital signs that welcome them personally and include their logo, for example, they will feel at home. In addition, it will reinforce their decision to use that hotel as the host of their events.
